Evening's Project

Here's the Before and (almost) After photos of my little DIY project with the wooden rods. I saw an idea on Pinterest where you raise a picture frame by attaching it to one of these mini pedestals. I painted them tonight (had to google what colors make black: mix even amount blue, red, yellow). Turned out with a deep gray that seemed modern so we went with it! I even did some freehand drawing on the yellow one that turned into a Limestone Saints base.

We are currently looking for A. Picture frames to nail or glue and B. A picture frame or base to make my own picture frame for an odd size picture I'll use to decorate my future sewing room. Until then, here's the small project in progress:

Lil boy bow-ties

A friend of mine is hosting her son's first birthday party in teal and gray. The bicycle fabric was gone so we did teal chevron. They can use a lil shaping but that's easy. Hope it turned out how she likes. It will make for cute party favors and an adorable picture.

Dress

I recently realized my double- dressform can adjust her height! Haha. She's even more like me. I need a few darts and hem the bottom, but we're getting somewhere.

Doggy Rag Quilt (one of our faves)

Here's one of my favorite projects!  A rag quilt for my niece, Emma Grace's 1st birthday!  I had only been sewing for maybe 3 months and whipped this together in less than a week (pretty much a weekend)!
Mom & I picked up the pattern on Black Friday in 2011.  It's Simplicity 4993.  They have a pig and a bear, but the dog is ADORABLE!!  I want one to match Daisy's Blenheim coloring but it seems like a daunting project since I remember all the energy I crammed into that one weekend.
Brandon actually made his first trip to JOANN Fabrics when I made this rag quilt!  He offered to buy me a thimble--what a goofball!
When you look at the pattern, it suggests using flannel, chenille, & minky fabric (all of that was once foreign to me).  We used up a gift are and matched the fabrics together pinks, blues, whites, & yellows of all different soft comfy textures!
I always love to see how soft and homey it looks when I visit my niece.  I guess it's a story time blanket.  Ahh, maybe one day something will spark for me to grab some Daisy-Like fabric and make ourselves this rag quilt!

Kerry's having a Girl!

I've been meaning to put together a little baby gift set for my old college teammate, Kerry. It's almost been nine months (she's expecting any day now!). I'm sending this off tomorrow.

It's Babyville waterproof fabric. A little changing pad blanket, reversible bib, and diaper clutch. Just a little something. Her baby goodies should arrive just in time for baby!

Housewarming

I made this gardening apron packed with goodies for a co-worker friend's housewarming last weekend. I think the best part was the homemade sugar hand scrub. Did a double batch so we could have one at the house! :)

Old School Medicine Ball

What could inspire you more to workout than a home-made medicine ball and sandbag?!  My at-home workouts call for just a few weighted items, but I'm not willing to pay $80 plus shipping on a single squishy ball and a bag filled with sand.  I used to collect sand from the beaches when I travelled and competed in beach volleyball tourneys.  I didn't have enough for my sand bag, but I was willing to go to Home Depot or Lowes for one bag at $3 (I still use that sand for random projects).  Sew! I went to JOANN's with my gift card and coupon and spent less than $24 for vinyl fabric and foam.

I drew out a trapezoid and stitched the panels together like a volleyball.  The main closure is a zipper.  I've been using this for resistance in my workout!

For the sandbag, I followed an old school gym bag tutorial.  I made square pouches filled with sand so I can adjust the amount of weight that goes in the bag based on the exercise.

I couldn't decide what I was more proud of:  the coupon adventure at JOANN's or the creation of my old school medicine ball!
